The Heavens Declare: Why the Bible and Science Are Not at War

Introduction to the Gospel Foundations

Welcome to the Gospel Foundations community!

As you might have noticed from our homepage, we are dedicated to exploring two great books of truth: The Bible (the book of God’s Word) and Nature (the book of God’s Creation). For too long, the two have been presented as enemies. Here, we believe they are harmonious witnesses to the same Divine Author.

This first exhortation is about establishing that foundational peace.

Psalm 19: The Dual Testimony

The clearest verse on this topic comes from Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

The psalmist understood that you don’t need a seminary degree to witness God’s majesty. You simply need to look up. Every galaxy discovered by the Hubble telescope, every subatomic particle observed by science—it all points back to an unimaginably powerful, intelligent, and creative mind.

The Purpose of God’s Two Books

  • The Book of Nature (Science): Answers the question: “How did God do it?” It reveals the mechanisms, laws (physics, chemistry), and complexity of the universe. It shows His power and intelligence.
  • The Book of Scripture (The Bible): Answers the question: “Why did God do it?” It reveals His character, His plan of salvation, and the meaning and purpose behind creation.

One tells us how the watch works; the other tells us why the watch was made. Neither is complete without the other, and neither contradicts the other when properly understood.

Your First Step: Exploration and Exhortation

We encourage you to use the resources on our Science & Creation Links page to marvel at the physical universe, and then use our Digital Bible Reader to ground your heart in the truth of God’s Word.

Begin your journey today by simply marveling at the sheer complexity of a single living cell.  Could such an intricate system arise without a master designer?
